Comedy takes center stage at the Governor's Inn

ROCHESTER — New England's most electric comic comes to The Lilac City on Friday, Nov. 19 when the The Governor's Inn brings Harrison Stebbins along with two other Boston comics to its stage.

With a sarcastic wit and an improvisational style, Stebbins has quickly become one of the most popular acts in the Northeast. His unique blend of high-energy physical comedy and clever insight keeps audiences laughing long after he has left the stage. Stebbin's good looks and youthful vigor also makes him quite popular with the ladies.

Stebbins has performed in some of the world's best comedy clubs including Caroline's Comedy Club, Nick's Comedy Stop, Gotham Comedy Club, Catch a Rising Star and, of course, Mottley's Comedy Club in Boston (his Wednesday night shows in the city have become the stuff of legend). His hilarious on-stage persona has won over countless audiences from high school students to corporate executives and crowned him the current champion of the Sam Adam's Best of Boston comedy competition. He has performed on the Comedy Central Live Tour, Dave Attell's Insomniac Tour (featured on Comedy Central), and The Comcast Comedy Stoplight.

Stebbins has worked with an impressive list of national acts such as Dave Chapelle, Dane Cook, Larry the Cable Guy, Steven Wright, Kevin Nealon, Dave Attell, Jeffrey Ross, Harlon Williams, Joe Rogan, Steve Sweeney, Lewis Black, Rita Rudner, Jim Breuer, Kevin Pollack, Tommy Davidson, D.L. Hughley, and Anthony Clark. His razor sharp wit and animated persona have made him one of stand-up comedy's fastest rising.

Also on The Governor's Inn comedy stage on Nov. 19 is headliner Greg Boggis who takes the audience with his laid back blend of current events, interesting observations and comic approach toward life. Boggis has been pleasing nightclubs and comedy shows, colleges, benefits, and corporate shows all around America. His career has taken a turn into acting and print modeling. Boggis has appeared in small roles in a number of movies as well as TV commercials for 3Com, Conway Office Products, the Vermont and Maine State Lottery, and the Foxy Lady Gentlemen's Club.

The comedians get started at 8 p.m., but start your evening at The Governor's Inn with the casual menu from Spaulding Steak and Ale restaurant. Tickets are $10 in advance and $15 at the door. For more information and a menu, visit www.governorsinn.com or call 332-0107.

Comedy at the Governor's this weekend

ROCHESTER – On Saturday, Nov. 6 three of Boston ’s best comics will bring back the laughs to Lillac City’s own dinner stage at The Governor’s Inn .
Carolyn Plummer will get the evening going. God help us. Some comics rely on the monumental events of the day or the faux pas of the rich and famous. Not Carolyn. Carolyn pulls material from the hum-drum, day-to-day monotony of the life of everyman. And she does it well. To Carolyn the monumental is easy … to her it’s our very existence that is hard, to the point of being ridiculous. Some women look in the mirror and complain because they aren’t pretty enough, not rich enough, not young enough. Carolyn gives her reflection the finger. The third child of a Congregational Minister and a home maker mother, Plummer says she should be aloof but instead she is clueless!

‘C.P.’ Carolyn learned early on that she could lament or she could make fun. See her once and you’ll quickly figure out which path she chose. And you’ll laugh. Possessing an uncanny ability to introspectively pull from places most of us hide, Carolyn puts a nail through the heart of whiners, self-loathers and the self-sorry of the world and makes the average seem hilarious and larger than life. Most of all, Carolyn’s twisted perception of our common existence leaves audiences hysterically shaking heads in agreement with her assessment that the world is indeed a very funny place.

Also on stage on Saturday, Nov. 6 at The Governor’s Inn will be comedy superstar Corey Manning – the evening’s headliner - a regular host of Boston Comedy Jams, and has been a semi-finalist in the Boston Comedy Festival, and, interestingly enough, is the first comedian to be certified as an artist by the City of Boston . He has also hosted celebrity fundraisers featuring NFL and NBA players, National Recording Artists, and Actors. In 2006 Corey was featured in Jamie Foxx’s ‘LAFFAPALOOZA! … The New Faces of Comedy’. More recently, he's been a contestant in the Bay Area Black Comedy Competition and Festival, and had a very successful début of his one-man play ‘Confessions of a Blackman.’

Prior to his comedy work in Boston , Corey graduated from North Carolina Central University , with a major in Theatre. You can regularly catch Corey on "Wake Up!! With Corey & Drea" on Boston Neighborhood Network TV. He is a freelance writer for The Bay State Banner, and radio morning show host, on Touch 106.1 FM. Corey is also a part of the comedic team, Dynamic Duo of Comedy. Tickets are $10 in advance and $15 at the door. For more information, visit www.governorsinn.com or call 603-332-0107.
