The second weekend of The Summer Music Series from the garden stages of The Governor's Inn brings a lively combination of acoustic, alternative jam, and a big name roots and rock band, The Adam Ezra Group. All shows are free, with varying times as stated below.
On Thursday, June 23, Matt Gelinas and his band 'Hopeless Folk' will stage their weekly big beat favorites gig in front of the Spaulding Steak & Ale Restaurant from 6-9 p.m. On Friday, June 24, Ken Veno performs his happy hour style of music from 7-10 p.m., also on the front lawn, or in the case of inclement weather, on the courtyard under the Inn's big tent. All events are rain or shine.
On Saturday night, June 25, 'Vessel,' an up and coming alternative jam band, will kick it up from the garden stage of The Cafe at the Governor's Inn from 7-10 p.m., with a full menu available from Spaulding Steak & Ale.
Then on Sunday, June 26, the Adam Ezra Group will showcase their new styled acoustic rock that has taken Boston by storm and then moved on to the national level. Known for his muscular, Bruce Springsteen style of voice, Adam Ezra was dubbed by VH1 to be "one of the most promising songwriters to come along in years... with the craftsmanship and insight to become a major voice in American music." Ezra has in fact been said to be the confluence of Bruce Springsteen, Dave Matthews, James Taylor, and Jack Johnson. And his energy combines all four. "Adam Ezra writes with the heart of a troubadour and sings like a rock star," wrote reviewer Catie Curtis. According to Jack Casey, General Manager of 88.9 WERS "After two hours of almost nonstop playing, Adam Ezra still gave everything he had to the audience. Not since Springsteen and Bono have I seen a lead singer with his talent and Charisma."
Ezra is also known for his lyrics. Alternate Root Magazine wrote "You immediately get two things out of Adam Ezra's music. One, he's a damn good songwriter surrounded by a formidable cast of players. Two, he's thinking about things on a different level... he is one brilliant singer/songwriter."
Ezra's songs often revolve around the common thread of finding the courage to follow one's own unique path through life. This thread is pulled from Adam's life of traveling the world and helping others find their path and driving force through music and activism. This theme is brought to the forefront with his songs "Miss Hallelujah" and "Takin' Off Today," the latter describing a young couple bravely breaking ties with the small town they grew up in. Adam then admits to pushing his own boundaries of perspective with "Soldier," a song from the point of view of an American serving in the Middle East.
"As a political writer my thoughts are always with our brothers and sisters serving over seas. I spent some time volunteering for the relief effort in Kosovo where I was working side-by-side with Marines and UN peacekeepers. Also throughout the past decade of touring I have had the honor of connecting and talking to many of our service men and women. I am fascinated by the intensity they face everyday, knowing that the worst could happen at any moment, even while performing the most routine tasks.
The Adam Ezra Group will perform from 4-7 p.m., rain or shine, with a full menu available, and donations for the band are encouraged. The Sunday Garden Concerts are brought forth by Center Stage Sponsor MetroCast. Other sponsors for the Music Series are Associates in Family Dentistry, Federal Savings Bank, Spence & Mathews Insurance, Bourque's Flooring, Animal Health Center, Burke's Tree Service, Artstream and Studley Flower Gardens.
