ROCHESTER – Fans of Martin Sexton might remember the acoustic dynamo that opened for Sexton at The Rochester Opera House – Dan Walker. He’s opened for other names like Livingston Taylor and Jeffrey Gaines, but on Friday July 1 Dan Walker opens for none other than you! Right on Wakefield Street – where The Governor’s Inn Acoustic Fridays on the Front Lawn series takes place from 7 to 10pm.
Known as one of the finest singer / songwriters on the Seacoast, Dan Walker sings and plays his own songs from the heart. Fans of familiar artists Jack Johnson and Dave Matthews will find musical kinship with Walker and his style. He has also been described to be “one badass mo-fo on the guitar!” A furious picker and relentless strummer with a knack of turning the body of his acoustic guitar into a glorified hand-drum, Walker is the real deal. The music he puts out is fun, impressive, sharp, poignant, and often ”foot-stompin' and head-shakin'”.
Originally from Indiana, Walker’s songs evoke a strong sense of home while simultaneously conveying the compulsion to ramble. He has performed in at least 15 different states, and his style seems appropriate in just about any geographic context, from New England to the Midwest to the Deep South. In his song “Hit the Road,” the fourth track on his CD “Airplane,” Walker rattles off a number of cities and states where he has played, including Indiana; New Orleans; Fort Collins, Col.; Nashville, Tenn.; Boise, Id.; and California.
The Acoustic Fridays on the Front Lawn series at The Governor’s Inn is a shine or rain event (under the big top out back), offers the full menu from Spaulding Steak & Ale and is primarily sponsored by Federal Savings Bank and Associates in Family Dentistry.
